Greene County Fire School – Class Course Descriptions

Registration will be held at the Jamestown Jr. High School @ 53 North Limestone

All Practical Sessions will then be moved to Plymouth Road by Bus

Hands-on trainings:
- Live Burn Training

This class will give students live fire training using the City of Springfield Class A Live Fire Trainer. Students will review basic and advanced fire behavior. Training areas will include hose movements, direct and indirect attack, thermal imaging, basement fires and more. Each participant must have at least a 36 hour card, full PPE, SCBA, and an extra cylinder.

 
Auto Extrication, PPE required, 8 hours available Sat and Sun.

Auto Extrication at the 2008 GCFS promises to be a challenging experience for rescuers all level.  Each one-day class will feature scenario-based evolutions allowing participants to practice necessary skills using hydraulic, pneumatic, and hand-powered rescue tools.

 

 
RIT Operations, Pre req of RIT or Saving Our Own, Full PPE and SCBA required, 8 hours available Sat and Sun.

This 8-hour course is designed to give the Firefighter a basic knowledge of RIC operations. This course will focus on techniques for the rescue and removal of trapped firefighters.  Other topics to be included are responsibilities of the RIC crew and fireground size-up considerations.  This course will include some lecture on the history and evolution of RIC, strategy and deployment of the RIC, and will involve hands-on instruction that will require the students to provide full NFPA compliant P.P.E. and S.C.B.A. with spare cylinders.

 

 
Rescue Challenge, teams of 4-6, 8 hours available Sat only.

Are you ready to put all your skills to the test? Ready to stretch your boundaries? Sign up with your crew or a team of 4-5 and challenge your way through six very different scenarios involving a range of disciplines and equipment. Each scenario will be facilitated by a knowledgeable and helpful instructor, so if you get stumped, just ask for a hint. Requirements are a "Can Do" attitude, no special trainings needed. Saturday Only. For teams of 4-5. Limit of Six teams.

 

 
 Machine Rescue Tool Lab, 8 hours available Sun only

This 8 hour class will take students through many various types of fire/rescue power tool systems. Students will learn the proper application of power tool systems, how to troubleshoot them and safely operate them in a variety of environments. Ample time will be given for understanding the basic operating features and why you would select one tool system over another for a particular task.

 

 
Classroom trainings:
 
Health and Wellness Seminar, 8 hours available Sat and Sun.

Firefighters are still dying at an alarming rate due to poor health and lack of fitness.  Fire departments, career or volunteer, are raising the bar on testing and maintenance of their firefighter’s physical health.   Are you ready to meet this new challenge?  This 8-hour course will provide the firefighter or fire officer with the general knowledge needed to develop fitness programs which are flexible enough for the department or company.  The course is classroom and manipulative including the following basic topics: firefighter physical health, nutrition, fitness testing, group fitness activities, motivation and fitness plan development. 

 

 
Fire Investigation Seminar, 16 Hours - Must attend Both Days

This 16-hour course was developed by the National Fire Academy to define the role of initial responder organizations and to teach them to recognize the potential of an intentionally set fire, preserve evidence and report the information to the appropriate official.

 

 
Officer Development including building construction and table top IC, 8 hours available Sat and Sun.

This 8 hour class is designed to assist current company officers and officer candidates in their decision making process regarding structure fires and provide essential knowledge and benchmarks to help them recognize the actual and potential dangers associated while operating in and around buildings that are on fire.

The first half of this course includes the following a review of basic building construction and how fire behavior, critical observations of the first arriving crew(s), reading the fire conditions, listen to the building and deciding on the appropriate course of action are effected by building construction.

The second half of the class is designed to give each participant hands-on practice in dealing with single and multi company fire scenarios using the now famous Sinclair City table top simulator. The role and responsibilities of fire officers, the use of common standard fire ground procedures, integration of standard company functions, and the role of the Incident Management System in fire incidents will be stressed.

Active student participation is required.

 

 
- EMS on the Fire Scene including CO in Firefighter Rehab and Trauma in MVA, 8 hours available Sat and Sun.

Attendees will learn about new NFPA standards as they relate to Fireground Rehab and discuss ways to implement these recommendations. We will also discuss the role of Carbon Monoxide and Cyanide monitoring on the Fireground. Students will have classroom as well as hands on activities.

Students in the Trauma class will discuss the management of the Major Trauma victim and the latest guidelines for dealing with these type of emergencies. Students will have hands on practice with dealing with an entrapped victim.

CEU's will be awarded, including 1 Hour of Ohio Trauma Triage CEU's
